Katrina Kaif has emerged as the most searched person online in the India this year, says a report by search engine giant Google

Leaving behind anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has emerged as the most searched person online in the country this year, says a report by search engine giant Google.

The report released by Google on Friday has come up with the topics and persons that Internet users in the country searched the most in 2011.

Katrina Kaif topped the chart in the category of ‘Top Searched People’ online. Hazare came second.Hazare was at the top position in the category of ‘Fastest Rising People’, which is the list of people that have gained interest of Internet users. Strip-fame model Poonam Pandey is second in this list.

Among the news items, cricket league IPL tops the chart while the current hot topic in Indian news media ‘Lokpal Bill’ is the fifth most searched subject online.In sports, Cricket World Cup 2011 emerged as the most searched sporting event, while Sachin Tendulkar was the most searched sports person.Ironically, competitor Facebook is at the top of ‘Top Searches’ on Google, followed by its own video-sharing service YouTube.

Interestingly, the report noticed that for the first time Internet moved out of the realm of the metros, which was the trend until last year.

“Over 70 per cent of search happened in non-metros and a lot of Internet usage moved to mobile phones,” Google India Head of Products Lalitesh Katrgadda said.

The British weekly conducted a survey through social networking sites and found out that Kareena Kapoor tops the list of Sexiest Asian Woman for the year 2011.

The battle between Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif was nip and tuck and the former won only by a narrow margin.

Eastern Eye showbiz editor Asjad Nazir said: “This battle between the two beauties is a sign of things to come in Bollywood in the next few years. Although the list contained pop stars, TV personalities, models and film stars from around the world, the voting quite comprehensively showed that Kareena and Katrina have put a distance between themselves and the rest of the contenders in terms of popularity.”

Several Bollywood beauties found a place in the top ten Sexiest Asian Women. There is also a Pakistani beauty.

The star of one of the year`s biggest hits `Raajneeti` and hotly anticipated Christmas release `Tees Maar Khan` is excited about the hat-trick.

“I`m very happy that I have made it to the top of Eastern Eye`s list again. England is off course a very special place to me and I think it`s very sweet to be voted the sexiest by them. I just want to thank everyone for the support,” said the 26-year-old actress.

The actress who reportedly split from on-off boyfriend Salman Khan this year, came out on top of the survey conducted by the newspaper, Britain`s only national English language weekly serving the whole Asian community in the UK.

The list was calculated on the basis of the most photographed women in the world and the most in-demand with film producers and fans.

“Although Bollywood heroines dominated the top 10, the list for 2010 included stunning beauty pageant winners, top actresses from around the world, pop stars and TV personalities. That is why Katrina should be deservedly proud of her amazing win,” Eastern Eye showbiz editor Asjad Nazir said.

Priyanka Chopra narrowly missed out on the top spot by finishing second for the second year in a row. Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat came eighth, a spot behind Kareena Kapoor.

Bipasha Basu occupied the third spot and Freida Pinto, India`s most popular export to Hollywood only managed a fourth position, while Lara Dutta rounded off the top five.

Katrina Kaif was born in Hong Kong to a Kashmiri father and British mother. She spent her childhood in Hawaii and later moved to England.

She first came to the notice of filmmaker Kaizad Gustad while she was modelling for a jewellery campaign in London and that led to her break in Bollywood in the film `Boom`.

Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has retained the top spot in an annual list of the world’s 50 sexiest Asian women unveiled on Friday.

The Bollywood babe beat off tough competition from other actresses, former beauty queens, models and pop stars to hold on to the Eastern Eye crown she won last year.

Indian actresses took eight of the top 10 spots, with British television star Laila Rouass and Pakistani actress Mehwish Hayat completing the list.

It all happened on the sets of ‘Rajneeti’ when Ajay Devgn took Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee into confidence and pulled a joke on his leading lady Katrina.

As a part of the joke the trio informed her that it was Nana’s birthday and that they were throwing a party for him. They also told her that she had to dress modestly in Indian attire, as Nana was very particular about how women dressed.

Kat hurriedly dressed up in a salwar-kameez and walked up to Nana with a box given by Ajay. ‘When Nana opened the box he was shocked to find old underwear, a single chappal and a fake moustache as a gift. Katrina was horrified,’ reveals a source from the sets.

Apparantly Kat was embarrassed and turned red-faced. Everyone including Ajay, Arjun and Manoj started laughing hysterically. Nana finally told her it was a prank and that she should be more careful with Ajay from now on.

After De Dhana Dan, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif will pair up in yet another comedy flick. The third installment of the series which is titled Hera Pheri 4 will be directed by Anees Bazmee.

The much-awaited Hera Pheri sequel is finally taking shape.

A source says, “After the super success of Hera Pheri and Phir Hera Pheri, producer Firoz Nadiadwala has been planning the third installment. However, the film was taking its own time. The promos of the forthcoming film De Dana Dan starring Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal are being shown with Blue (which releases today) at the trail shows. The industry insiders have begun talking about the winning combination of Akshay, Sunil and Paresh. Firozbhai saw the promos and immediately got in touch in Akshay for the much-awaited installment. Although Akshay’s date diary is packed, he came to Firoz’s rescue by accommodating the film. However, the interesting bit is that the film will be titled Hera Pheri 4 and not 3. The reason for the same will be revealed in the promos of the film, once it is ready.”

Although Hera Pheri was directed by Priyadarshan and Phir Hera Pheri by Neeraj Vohra, Hera Pheri 4 will be directed by Anees Bazmee. The source adds, “Akshay, Firoz and Anees last came together for Welcome (2007). Katrina Kaif will play the female lead in Hera Pheri 4, which is slated to go on the floors in March next year.”
