Bollywood’s star couple – Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai – are expecting their first baby.

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, the expectant granddad and Abhishek’s father, spilled the beans on the microblogging site Twitter on Tuesday night to say his daughter-in-law Aishwarya is pregnant.

“NEWS NEWS NEWS !! I AM GOING TO BECOME A GRANDFATHER .. AISHWARYA EXPECTING .. SO HAPPY AND THRILLED !!!,” Bachchan Sr tweeted.

The baby will be the couple’s first child. Abhishek(35) and Aishwarya(37) tied the knot on April 20, 2007.

Aishwarya has not personally confirmed she is pregnant. But Archana Sadanand, the publicist for the former Miss World, said there is nothing more to add other than what Amitabh had said.

According to sources, after the success of his last film PAA, Abhishek Bachchan will now oversee the future strategy of the family owned film production house ABCL.

For starters, all films that feature Abhishek will be co-produced or distributed by ABCL. This is seen as one of the long term plans of the company to turn into a major filmmaking hub.

Well, after the success of PAA, it seems the Bachchans are getting increasingly involved in the film production yet again. And by all standards it’s surely a welcome move.

Will Smith was the first to make it in the Guinness World Record for his movie HITCH for making the maximum number of public appearances by a film star at different cities in 12 hours promoting their film. Jargen Vogel and Daniel Bruhl (Germany) broke Will Smith’s record and now Abhishek Bachchan takes the mantle.

The whirlwind set of appearances were done under strict Guinness World Record guidelines and the current record was equaled within five hours, broken in eight hours and by the time 12 hours had lapsed, Abhishek had visited 7 cities further extending the challenge. The last two cities took more than six hours.

The record-breaking whirlwind tour, to promote his latest release DELHI 6, began on 22nd February, Sunday in the afternoon at 12.05 pm in Ghaziabad in the presence of world media; Abhishek started his unique tour travelling to as many events in as many cities as possible within 12 hours. Other cities covered included Noida, Faridabad, Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh and Mumbai.

Bollywood turned up in style for the premiere of Amitabh Bachchan’s movie Paa in Mumbai on Thursday evening.

Everybody was curious to watch Big B in the role of a boy suffering from a degenerative condition called Progeria. Plus, there’s the fact that the Amitabh’s son Abhishek and actress Vidya Balan play his parents. The film is directed by R Balakrishnan aka Balki.

The atmosphere was buzzing with celebrities who checked out the set up at Wadala’s Imax theatre which was done up like a school complete with people dressed up as peons and watchmen. There were even replicas of school buses.

Amitabh, Abhishek and his wife Aishwarya Rai played hosts during the glittering night.

‘Paa,’ this is how the junior Bachchan addresses his dad, now it takes shape of a film directed by R Balki. He is the guy who directed ‘Cheeni Kum’ that had Big B and Tabu playing the leads.

We find in the actor’s blog “My rituals today were guided by the extensive hours at the studio, a major portion of which were in front of the make up mirror, getting the face plastered with silicon”. But the actor is very pleased with the look that he dons in this film.”

The make-up specialists are from Los Angeles and it takes four hours for the team to do justice to the new look of Bachchan Sr. Big B has complimented the team of make-up professionals and has said that they are extremely professional in their work.

‘Paa’ is being co-produced by AB Corp and Reliance Big Entertainment. The film started rolling a couple of days back. The film sees Big B along with son Abhishek, Vidya Balan and Harman Baweja in pivotal roles.
