After a fortnight of chilly nights, Goans can expect much warmer weather in the days to come, Meteorological Department officials said.
The State recorded minimum temperature as low as 19 degree Celsius during last fortnight, which saw mercury scaling down. “The minimum temperatures started falling from December 5 and it touched 19 degree Celsius on December 13,” Indian Meteorological Observatory in-charge K V Singh said.
He said that the minimum temperatures in the days to come will hover around 21 to 22 degree Celsius. “The temperatures have started rising,” he added.
December 14 recorded minimum 19.1 degree Celsius and the temperature got warmer on December 15 when it touched 20.5 degree Celsius mark.
Singh said that the change in wind pattern contributed for the chill in the air. “Initially there was East and South westerly winds which were taking the moisture away. But later they were replaced by North westerly winds bringing in cold from the Northern direction,” he said.
Goa is currently having North Easterly winds. “Coldness in the temperature will remain until there is northerly component in the wind,” he explained.
The Meteorological Department has said that partly cloudy weather will continue in the State due to high moisture content in the air.
The State had recorded maximum lowest temperature in last four decades on the night of December 12, 1981 when minimum temperature had touched 15.7 degree Celsius.
