Mr Sharad Chopdekar, the former chairperson of the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), received Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award from the Governor of Puducherry, Mr Iqbal Singh, New Delhi, recently.
Mr Chopdekar was presented the award for his meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable role in the society.
The former governor, Dr Bhishma Narayan Singh, former election commissioner, Dr Krishnamurthyji, MP of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Mahboob Mirzaji, member of Minority Commission, Mr S Hanpalji also graced the occasion.
When contacted the recipient of IIFS, Mr Chopdekar said, “I would like to dedicate this award to the people of Goa, my respected leaders in the Congress party and also to my friends, for constantly helping and guiding me in my endeavour to work for the betterment of the oppressed sections in the society.”
“This award is an inspiration for me to move forward and to do justice to the expectations of the downtrodden people,” he added.
