Goa Fire Service Academy is in the pipeline, revealed the Home Minister, Mr Ravi Naik, on Saturday morning.
Mr Naik, while speaking to the press, after the 22nd annual inspection day parade of Goa Fire and Emergency Services at Fire Service ground at St Inez on Saturday, stated that jawans from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Daman, Diu and Silvassa and other states flock to Goa for getting training in fire services.
He also said that the proposal is there “but we need to submit a project report to the government” and added that the proposal is under the active consideration of the government.
Earlier, while speaking as the chief guest for the function, the Home Minister stressed the need to provide necessary equipment like aerial ladder, besides recruiting 250 more personnel to fill the vacuum in various stations of the Fire Services to enable the firefighters attend to emergencies, especially, in high rise buildings.
Terming the state fire fighting department as one of the best in the country, Mr Naik said that the Goa Fire and Emergency Services has trained fire personnel from other states in the past.
He distributed prizes for various competitions and certificates of different courses.
The Chief Secretary, Mr S K Srivastava, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, congratulated the fire service personnel for impressive parade and demonstrations.
He further said that the government was aware of their requirements and problems and assured to look into the matter. Mr Ashok Menon, director of Fire and Emergency Services welcomed the guests, Mr Ajit Kamat, fire officer, Panaji Fire Station compered and proposed the vote of thanks.
Winner of drill competition were: Squad Drill – Fire Force Headquarters, Tug of War – Verna Fire Station, Ladder Drill – Panaji Fire Station and Pump Drill – Panaji Fire Station.
