The government wants to make the new Central library building, at Patto, a ‘Knowledge Centre’ and best in Asia, Chief Minister Digamabr Kamat said today.
Replying to the cut motions tabled by the Opposition, Kamat said the government was planning to get in touch with the BARC, ISRO and the NIO to build a network of books.
“We want to create a network of all libraries in the State,” he said. Hence, he continued, we are trying to get in touch with the Baba Atomic Research Centre, National Institute of Oceanography and Indian Space Research Organization.
“This will help in building a larger network and provide better facilities to the readers,” he stated adding “We want to make the library the best in Asia.”
He said, “Today’s children are more glued to television and we need to inculcate reading habit in them.”
On the controversy of FAR surrounding the new building, he replied, “there are some FAR issues which will be sorted out soon.” The State cultural policy would be implementation in phases, he said.
“A comprehensive policy has been prepared by the Department of Art and Culture and we will implement the policy in phases,” he said adding “…implementing all features of the policy at a time will have financial implication.”
