The political race for the Congress candidate for the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency has started. The forerunners for the candidature are sitting MP
Francisco Sardinha, his challenger and PWD Minister Churchill Alemao’s lawyer daughter Valanka Alemao and Power Minister Alexio Sequeira.
While Sardinha’s supporters appear confident that the MP would get re-nomination from the party High Command, supporters and close aides of the PWD minister are leaving no stone unturned in support of Valanka Alemao.
That the Alemaos have launched a serious campaign in favour of Valanka was evident by the support she has received from a section of the Party MLAs, youth activists, past MLAs, Zilla and Panchayat members.
Sequeira’s candidature is being proposed in Congress circles as an alternative to both sitting South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha and challenger Valanka Alemao. An influential group within the Congress feels that Sequeira would be the best bet for the party in the political campaign.
Election are scheduled to be held in the month of April 2009.
