PVR Pictures strikes gold with NEW MOON, achieves the biggest opening weekend collections for a Hollywood film by an Indian Independent Studio!
With the release of NEW MOON in India on December 11th, PVR Pictures has achieved the biggest opening weekend collections for a Hollywood release, by an Independent Studio. NEW MOON, the latest in the Twilight series that’s become a rage worldwide, has opened to packed houses in the country with the opening weekend witnessing close to 65-70 % occupancy ratio. Realizing the huge demand for the movie, PVR Pictures had planned one of the widest releases for NEW MOON in India (by releasing the movie in 4 languages – English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil with a print count of close to 600 prints). NEW MOON opening weekend collections in India has been able to compliment the record-breaking breaking collections the movie has garnered since its international release this year on November 20th.

The collections so far in India have been in sync with the huge opening that we had anticipated for the movie since we always believed in the huge demand of the film. So far, the biggest releases that have reaped big opening weekend collections this year in India include 2012, HARRY POTTER and THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE, X-MEN – WOLVERINE, TRANSFORMERS 2, TERMINATOR SALVATION. NEW MOON has achieved the 6th biggest opening weekend collection of the year till now, which is expected to grow bigger in the days to come.
2009 has seen a new trend that where Hollywood releases in India are performing exceptionally well. Hollywood films are now raking in big collections even when compared to Hindi films for eg. HANGOVER OR 2012 etc.
Audience preferences are going beyond Stars and good content is being appreciated as much.
