First it was a meat bikini for a mag cover, and now an entire dress at the MTV Video Music Awards 2010. The question arises – hasn’t she outdone herself? Lady GaGa dress for the evening looked normal until she remarked, “I never thought I’d be asking Cher to hold my meat purse,” shifting the attention of the fans and onlookers to her attire. She was covered in an outfit that looked nothing but bloody.
The pop sensation who won eight VMA awards later claimed that the dress wasn’t made of cuts of real meat, the way it looked. While talking to host Ellen DeGeneres, who is a vegan, at her show, Gaga said she didn’t want to be “just another bitch in a dress at an awards show” and that the dress wasn’t meant to be ‘disrespectful’. However, MTV reported that she did don raw flesh; her designer reportedly confirmed it.
When asked by DeGeneres what was the purpose of the meat dress, Gaga disclosed, “it has many interpretations, but for me this evening … If we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And I am not a piece of meat.”
Though the lady was convinced about the reason for wearing that gory dress, for many it isn’t still clear. Music lovers have rated the dress from being ‘offensive’ to ‘awesome’. What’s your say?
