Multilingual movie DAM999, the tale of a dam built during colonial rule cracking, has got a good rating from IMDB, the award winning movie website.

The $10-million film directed by Sohan Roy has received huge popularity on IMDb and is rated among the 5,000 best movies of the week worldwide at 737th, a press statement said.At present, according to the IMDb ratings, Roy is the most popular Malayalam director of the week.

DAM999 was released end of last month in 550 theatres across the country and got a huge boost on account of the ongoing dispute between Kerala and Tamil Nadu over the leaking Mullaperiyar Dam in Kerala.Tamil Nadu banned the film,saying it portrays the collapse of the dam and this had hurt the sentiments of the Tamil community.Also, there were allegations that the movie was funded by the Kerala government for political reasons.Roy has now approached the apex court against the banning of his film by the Tamil Nadu government.The film revolves around nine characters and their emotions which revolve around the central edifice of a dam.

Produced by Dubai-based BizTV Network, the movie with a social cause highlights hazards a dam can cause. It creates awareness about the impending dangers of a dam collapse, if not attended on time.

The petitioner has also said that the movie portrays Goa as a destination of sex, drugs and easy availability of women.

“The film is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2011 and given its publicity by the producers, the film will attract criminal minded tourists and offenders and drive away decent travelers and tourists from Goa,” the petitioner said.

The bench will hear the petition on Thursday. It names State Chief Secretary, Chairperson Central Board of film certification, M/s Fox Star studios Pvt Ltd and M/s Ramesh Sippy Entertainment as the respondents.

Rodrigues said the movie is against public order, decency and morality and there is clear violation of fundamental rights guaranteed under the constitution of India to Goans.

The petitioner also stated that over a period of years, Goa has been receiving negative global publicity on account of issues relating to drugs, sex and murder in some cases of international tourists.

“Goa has been portrayed in media and in the said movie in particular so as to depict it as destination of drugs and sex, both of which are claimed to be easily and freely available in this state,” it adds.

This wrong depiction is attracting and shall attract persons who are drug addicts, paedophiles, sex offenders, drug traffickers and persons engaged in trafficking of children and women, he claimed.

Former tourism minister Fransisco Pacheco also raised the issue during the ongoing state legislative assembly session.

Goa tourism minister Nilkant Halarnkar had told the House that the government will ‘seriously’ take up the issue with the producer.

The widely anticipated Rajinikanth-Aishwarya starrer Enthiran is all set for release on October 1. This will be Rajinikantha’s first major release since Shivaji in 2007. In fact bookings opened in Chennai on Saturday and tickets sold out in less than an hour.

“Vidhu is currently in Los Angeles, working on for ‘Broken Horses’. Cage has been confirmed for one of the leading roles just a few days ago,” the Daily Express quoted a source as saying.

The actor won`t need to pick up any new languages for the role – or even travel very far – Chopra recently revealed his latest project will be shot in the US and in English.

“In September, I will start shooting Broken Horses in the US. It will be an English film and will be for the world audience. I have done Hindi films, now I am doing English and after this I may do a Hindi film again,” Chopra said.

A huge set is being put up in a desert town bordering Mexico and the US. `Broken Horses` will have a western cast and crew and will start shooting from September 13.

If reports are to be believed at least some parts of the next movie in the Bond franchise will be shot in the Helmand province in Afghanistan.

According to online reports on James Bond fansites, the official, a member of the Foreign Office’s drug task force in the country has signed on as a consultant for the franchise.

The official, who has since left the Foreign Office and Afghanistan, is thought to have signed a confidentiality agreement with the filmmakers preventing any discussion of the project, The Times reported.

Should 007 tackle the opium fields of the country, it will be the second time he has ventured into Afghanistan. In the 1987 film The Living Daylights, Bond, played by Timothy Dalton, was imprisoned in a Russian camp in the country, before teaming up with anti-Soviet freedom fighters.

Eon Productions, the production company set up by Bond producer Albert Broccoli, refused to comment on whether the film would visit Afghanistan.

The 23rd Bond film will be Daniel Craig’s third outing as the fictional British spy, following the success of ‘Casino Royale’ and ‘Quantum of Solace’.

The plot of the new Bond film, expected to be released in 2011, is a closely guarded secret.
