The teenage wizards of Hogwarts slayed their competition at North American box offices with the latest “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ taking in $125 million for the best opening weekend in the film series’ history.
The movie collected $125.1 million at just over 4,100 locations for a per-theater average of more than $30,000, according to studio estimates on Sunday. Previously, the best three-day opening for a Potter movie belonged to “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” which rode into theaters in November 2005 and earned $102.7 million.
The Potter movies are produced and distributed by Warner Bros, a unit of Time Warner Inc.
