Apollo to open 11 hospitals, add 2,000 beds next fiscal

Hyderabad: As part of its Rs 1,800-crore ongoing expansion programme, Apollo Hospitals Group is planning to open 11 more hospitals in the next fiscal which includes an additional 2,000 more beds to the existing 8,800 beds. Following the addition of more hospitals from the current 50 hospitals, the group would also be upgrading to newer technologies in all areas at its super-specialty hospitals.

According to Pratap C Reddy, chairman, there is a deficit of one lakh beds in the country. “We are looking to add about 900 beds in the next six weeks in Bhubaneswar, Lavasa, Kolkata and Secunderabad,’’ he told the media. Further, the group is expanding its cancer hospitals with newer technologies such as Cyberknife and Novalis Tx.

It has nine cancer hospitals and is upgrading four to super speciality hospitals along with a bone marrow transplant facility. It would be investing Rs 400 crore for the proposed upgradation which also falls in line with Rs 1,800 crore expansion strategy. Also, a stem cell bank in Ahmedabad is getting ready which could be used for treatment of certain cancer.

On overseas acquisitions, Reddy said that the group has signed agreement with five hospitals with an option for a possible buyout in the next three years.
